History

An old-time saloon located at 44 Richmond Terrace, in the heart of historic St. George, proprietor Danny Mills decided that a steakhouse is what the island needed offering a view of Manhattan and terrace dining. In 1999 the Mills family razed the building and reopened in July of 2000 as Ruddy and Dean.

The name originates from the maiden names of Mills' grandmothers, Grandma Ruddy and Grandma Dean. The tradition of cast iron pans to sear steaks and finish in high heat has been passed down.

Today Ruddy and Dean serves Staten Islanders and tourists alike and is quickly making a name for itself as Staten Island's Premiere Steakhouse. A number of well-known people have enjoyed delectable meals at Ruddy & Dean such as football great Boomer Esiason, legendary boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas, boxer Gerry Cooney as well as a slew of local TV news personalities, such as Art McFarland, Nina Pineda, Lou Young, and Tony Penza, and numerous local politicians.
